The Justice Department settled over 100 claims from victims of Larry Nassar for $138.7 million. But it's ignored claims from Jeffrey Epstein victims, who say law enforcement failed to protect them. Representatives for the Justice Department didn't immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment Friday. But the Justice Department, while not denying wrongdoing, hasn't engaged in settlement talks, he said. He said, "It's confusing and confounding" that the FBI isn't addressing the claims of Epstein's victims with the same urgency it gave Nassar's.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump will win South Carolina’s Republican presidential primary, CNN projects, further tightening his grip on the nomination and leaving his last remaining major rival, Nikki Haley, to consider her dwindling options. What to watch in South Carolina’s Republican primary

CNN —Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign has for weeks been looking ahead to the Republican primary in South Carolina, her home state where she was twice elected governor. The primary in South Carolina is open, meaning Democrats and independents can cast ballots in the GOP race. The former president does not need to open a larger tent in order to win in South Carolina. It’s obviously not insurmountable, and with 50 at stake in South Carolina, Haley could theoretically jump into the lead. South Carolina awards 29 of its delegates to the statewide winner and three apiece to the leader in each of its seven congressional districts.

There are certain American cities that are known for Black history. But African American history and culture can, of course, be found across the United States, in seemingly unlikely cities, like Portland, Maine, say, or Providence, R.I. There are currently more than 700 Network to Freedom locations across 39 states, in addition to Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Many are in the Northeast, a region that is not always strongly associated with Black history. Curiosity about these lesser-known destinations is how I found myself on the road to Auburn and Rochester, N.Y., the homes of two American heroes: Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman.

Researchers found more than 6% of U.S. adults reported ever experiencing symptoms of long COVID as of 2022. Extrapolated to the U.S. population, it would mean more than 16 million adult Americans had experienced long COVID symptoms as of the survey. “State-level estimates might also help identify geographic disparities in Long COVID across the United States that could guide interventions to promote health equity.”Symptoms of long COVID can include tiredness, fatigue, difficulty thinking, “brain fog,” shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, menstrual changes and post-exertional malaise. The percentage of Americans who have experienced symptoms of long COVID are surely higher now than they were in 2022. Research published last week in the journal Pediatrics estimated that up to 5.8 million children have developed long COVID.

CNN —The FBI’s “repeated and continued failures, delays and inaction” allowed Jeffrey Epstein to continue his sex trafficking operation for more than 20 years, 12 alleged victims claimed in a lawsuit filed Wednesday. The lawsuit also says they support the unredacted release of FBI documents regarding Epstein, claiming the files are still largely sealed. “During the FBI investigation, the FBI was complicit in permitting Epstein and coconspirators to continue to victimize Jane Does 1-12 and other young women,” the lawsuit said. The FBI was notified the bank handled more than $1.1 million in payments from Epstein to women or girls, the lawsuit claimed. However, the FBI allegedly received additional tips and reports concerning sex abuse following the 2008 plea deal.

Trump’s advisers insist that doesn’t mean he’s taking South Carolina for granted. But we see this as a done deal,” a senior Trump adviser told CNN, referring specifically to South Carolina. Earlier this month, the Trump campaign held two press conferences featuring a series of his top South Carolina surrogates. “Nikki is persona non grata at this point,” Justin Evans, Trump’s director of special projects in South Carolina, told CNN. Even in a campaign in which Mr. Trump’s dominance has sapped the race of much of its drama, his win in Nevada felt particularly preordained. Embarrassingly for Ms. Haley, she was heavily outvoted in that election by a “None of These Candidates” option on the ballot. She was essentially unopposed, but even without Mr. Trump on the ballot, Republican voters rejected her. Ms. Haley still won the contest, but its results were effectively immaterial. Mr. McDonald also repeatedly pushed false claims of voter fraud that remain at the heart of Mr. Trump’s lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump is set to add a win in the Nevada Republican caucuses Thursday to his victories in Iowa and New Hampshire as he continues his march to his party’s 2024 presidential nomination. The state GOP opted to ignore the results of Tuesday’s state-run primary, and instead award its 26 delegates based on the results of Thursday’s party-run caucuses. The dueling contests are the result of a 2021 state law that scrapped Nevada’s presidential caucuses in favor of government-run primaries. A pair of ballot drop boxes are displayed at a voter center in Las Vegas during the Nevada presidential primary on February 6, 2024.
